Overnight Stock Market Movements: Key Developments 









The Indian stock market benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and Nifty 50, are likely to open cautiously on Tuesday as investors track mixed overnight global cues.

Asian markets traded on a mixed note, while the US stock market closed flat overnight as investors awaited fresh developments in US–Iran peace talks and key central bank decisions scheduled this week.

Moreover, on Monday, the Indian stock market broke its three-day losing streak and ended with strong gains.

  • Sensex soared by 639.42 points (0.83%) to close at 77,303.63
  • Nifty 50 moved up by 194.75 points (0.81%) to settle at 24,092.70

Gift Nifty

Gift Nifty was trading near 24,051, around 69 points lower than the previous Nifty futures close, hinting at a negative start for Indian markets.

Overnight Wall Street Performance

The US stock market closed on a mixed note on Monday, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite posting modest gains. 

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped by 62.67 points (0.13%) to close at 49,168.04.
  • S&P 500 up by 8.85 points (0.12%), ending at 7,173.93.
  • The Nasdaq Composite was higher by 50.50 points (0.20%), finishing at 24,887.10.

Crude Oil Prices

  • Brent crude gained by 0.40% to $108.68/barrel
  • US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was trading 0.60% higher at $96.96/barrel

Overnight Major Global Events Driving Sentiment

  1. US–Iran War: A US official said President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s proposal as it failed to address the nuclear issue. Trump also reviewed the proposal with his top national security advisers earlier in the day. Meanwhile, the US–Iran conflict remains at a stalemate, with energy supplies from the region continuing to decline.
  2. Japanese Bond Yields: Yields on benchmark Japanese Government Bonds edged closer to a 29-year high ahead of the central bank’s policy decision. The 10-year JGB yield rose 0.5 basis points to 2.475% in early trade, nearing the 2.49% level last seen earlier this month—the highest since June 1997.
