Central Banks: Monetary policies will be reviewed at the Federal Reserve and in Indonesia, Hungary, Georgia, Great Britain, Thailand, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, the Philippines, Russia and China. The Fed, which is expected to cut its interest, will unveil updated macroeconomic forecasts. Chairman Powell, Bank of England Governor Bailey, Bank of Japan Governor Bailey, and Bank of Canada Governor Macklem are among the central bankers who will be speaking publicly.
Special Events: It’s the last business-as-usual week before the holidays, and EU leaders will be holding a summit at the end of the period.
Scheduled U.S. Data Releases: Quarterly GDP, current account and PCE price deflator. Monthly preliminary purchasing manager surveys (PMI), personal income, personal consumption, PCE price deflator, retail sales, industrial production, capacity usage, NAHB housing market index, housing starts, building permits, existing home sales, Empire State, Philly Fed and K.C. Fed manufacturing surveys, U. Michigan consumer sentiment, and index of leading economic indicators. Weekly jobless insurance claims, mortgage applications, energy inventories, and chain store sales.
Euroland Releases: Quarterly labor costs and monthly preliminary PMIs, consumer prices, construction output, consumer confidence and ZEW Institute economic sentiment index.
Members of the Euro Area: German and French PMIs. German PPI, consumer confidence, and ZEW index of economic sentiment. Italian, Slovakian and Cypriot consumer prices. French, Portuguese, Estonian, Latvian, Finnish, Italian and Slovakian producer prices. Italian current account, trade balance, consumer sentiment, and business confidence. Belgian consumer confidence.
U.K. and Switzerland: British preliminary PMIs, CPI, PPI, retail sales, public sector borrowing requirement, Rightmove house price index and CBI surveys of industrial trends and distributive trades.
Eastern Europe: Russian and Polish PPI. Polish retail sales and industrial production. Hungary’s current account.
Nordic Europe: Icelandic CPI and PPI. Swedish retail sales and PPI. Danish consumer confidence.
Japanese and Chinese Releases: Japanese preliminary PMI surveys, machinery orders, tertiary index of service sector activity, trade balance and consumer prices. Chinese retail sales, industrial production, fixed asset investment, foreign direct investment, house prices, and unemployment.
Selected Other Asian Releases: Indonesian, Indian, Singaporean, and Malaysian trade balances. South Korean and Hong Kong PPI. Malaysian trade balance and CPI. Indian wholesale prices.
Australia, New Zealand and Turkey: Australian private credit, money growth, consumer confidence and index of leading economic indicators. New Zealand GDP, food prices, trade balance, and service sector PMI. Turkish consumer sentiment.
Canada, Mexico and Brazil: Canadian CPI, retail sales and home prices. Mexican retail sales and index of leading economic indicators. Brazilian consumer confidence.
