Central Banks: Monthly fixing of China’s Loan Prime Rates. The Bank of Japan will publish Board minutes, and BOJ Governor Ueda delivers a speech.
Holidays and Special Event: Most markets, including those in the United States, Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Ireland and Great Britain will be closed on Thursday for Christmas, and many of they will remain shut Friday including the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Switzerland. The 19th session of China’s 14th National People’s Standing Congress will run from December 22 through December 27.
Scheduled U.S. Data Releases: Third quarter GDP and current account. Monthly durable goods orders, Chicago Fed National Activity index, Chicago regional manufacturing purchasing managers survey, industrial production, capacity utilization, Richmond Fed survey of manufacturers, and consumer confidence. Weekly jobless insurance claims, energy inventories, chain store sales and mortgage applications.
Members of Euroland: Spanish, Italian, Finnish, Slovakian, Estonian, Irish, and Maltese producer prices. Dutch and Spanish GDP. Dutch, Austrian, and Lithuanian current accounts. Austrian manufacturing purchasing managers survey and German import prices.
U.K. and Switzerland: British quarterly current account and GDP and monthly GDP. Swiss ZEW survey of investor sentiment.
Eastern Europe: Polish and Russian retail sales. Hungary’s current account, Czech consumer sentiment, and Russian industrial production.
Nordic Europe: Icelandic and Swedish producer prices. Icelandic CPI, Norwegian retail sales and Danish GDP.
Japanese Releases: Corporate service prices, retail sales, industrial production, unemployment, housing starts, construction orders, and Tokyo consumer prices.
Selected other Asia: Consumer prices in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. Hong Kong current account and the Filipino and Thai trade balances. South Korean consumer confidence and China’s index of leading economic indicators.
Canadian Releases: PPI, industrial production, current account, and both monthly and quarterly GDP.
Turkey: Business confidence.
