Central Banks: Interest rate policies will be reviewed next week by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), People’s Bank of China and Bank Indonesia. Policy board meeting minutes will be published by both the Federal Reserve and European Central Bank, and the RBA’s quarterly Monetary Policy Statement arrives, too. Some of the Fed officials with plans to speak publicly during the period include Goolsbee, Daly, Musalem, Harker and Bowman.
Holidays and Special Events: Presidents Day in the United States and Family Day in Canada will be observed on Monday. The coming week will be the last full one before Germany’s parliamentary election on February 23rd. EU finance ministers will meet early in the week. Some top Trump Administration officials will be in Europe.
Scheduled U.S. Data Releases: Housing starts, building permits, the NAHB housing market index, existing home sales, Treasury-compiled capital flows, the index of leading economic indicators, the preliminary composite, manufacturing and service sector purchasing managers surveys (PMIs), and the revised University of Michigan consumer sentiment index.
Japanese and Chinese Releases: Japanese quarterly GDP and monthly industrial production, capacity usage, tertiary index, machinery orders, customs trade balance and preliminary PMI survey findings. Chinese retail sales, industrial production, home prices and foreign direct investment.
Selected Other Asian Releases: Trade balances of Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia. GDP in Hong Kong and Thailand. Malaysian and Hong Kong consumer prices. South Korean PPI, consumer confidence and business sentiment. Indian preliminary PMI results and Indonesia’s current account.
Euroland Releases: Trade balance, current account, economic sentiment index, construction output, ZEW index of investor sentiment, and preliminary PMI results.
Members of the Euro Area: French and German PMIs. German producer prices, ZEW Institute index of investor expectations, and Conference Board index of leading economic indicators. French, Italian, Slovenian, Lithuanian, Croatian, Finnish, Latvian and Irish consumer prices. German, Irish, Portuguese, and Latvian producer prices. Spanish, Belgian, and Slovenian consumer confidence. Spanish, Italian, and Irish trade balances. French business confidence and Italian current account.
U.K. and Switzerland: British quarterly productivity and monthly preliminary PMI surveys, CPI, PPI, RPI, consumer confidence, retail sales, public sector net borrowing, labor market statistics (such as unemployment, wage growth, and jobs). Swiss trade surplus, industrial production and employment.
Eastern Europe: Russian and Polish producer prices. Czech business sentiment and consumer confidence. Polish industrial production.
Nordic Europe: Danish GDP, consumer confidence, and PPI. Norway’s trade balance.
Australia and New Zealand: Australia preliminary PMIs for February and New Zealand January service sector PMI. Australian quarterly wage price index and monthly labor market statistics and index of leading economic indicators. New Zealand quarterly PPI and monthly trade balance.
South Africa and Turkey: South African CPI, retail sales, leading business cycle indicator and jobless rate. Turkish consumer confidence.
Canadian Releases: CPI, PPI, home prices, retail sales and housing starts.
Mexico and Brazil: Mexican GDP, retail sales and index of leading economic indicators. Brazilian business sentiment.
