Central Banks: Interest rate levels will be reviewed in Japan, Turkey, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Romania, Norway and Kazakhstan. Minutes from the last European Central Bank Governing Council meeting and the Bank of Japan’s quarterly Outlook for Economic Activity and Prices will be published. Swiss National Bank Chairman Schlegel, ECB President Lagarde, and Bank of Japan Governor Ueda speak publicly.

Holiday and Events: U.S. markets will be closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. birthday. Portugal holds a presidential election on Sunday. The annual World Economic Forum conference in 2026 runs January 19-23 in Davos, Switzerland, with a who’s who list of leaders from politics, business, civil activity and academia listed as speakers. Attendees will include U.S. President Trump, Ukraine President Zelensky, and former U.S. Vice President Gore. The Eurogroup and EU finance ministers, Ecofin, hold meetings early in the week.

Scheduled U.S. Data Releases: 4Q GDP and PCE price deflator. Monthly personal income, personal consumption expenditures, PCE price deflator, construction spending, pending  home sales, U. Michigan/Reuters survey of consumer confidence, and preliminary results of the January purchasing manager surveys. Weekly jobless insurance claims, energy inventories, chain store sales and mortgage applications.

Japanese and Chinese Releases: Japanese machinery orders, preliminary PMI survey results, capacity usage, industrial production, tertiary index, trade balance and consumer prices. Chinese quarterly GDP and monthly industrial production, retail sales, housing prices, unemployment, capacity usage, and fixed asset investment.

Selected Other Asian Releases: Indian preliminary PMI results. Singaporean and Hong Kong consumer prices. South Korean GDP and consumer sentiment. Thai and Malaysian trade balances.

Euroland Releases: Consumer prices, construction output, preliminary PMI estimates, ZEW Institute gauge of investor sentiment, and index of leading economic indicators.

Members of the Euro Area: German and French preliminary manufacturing and service sector PMI surveys. German, Estonian, Portuguese, and Latvian producer prices. German ZEW investor sentiment survey, IFO business climate survey, and index of leading economic indicators. Belgian, Dutch and Slovenian consumer sentiment. French business confidence and index of leading economic indicators. Spain’s trade balance.

U.K. and Switzerland: British preliminary PMI survey results, labor market statistics, CPI, PPI, consumer confidence, retail sales, Rightmove house price index, and the industrial trends and distributive trade surveys.

Eastern Europe: Russian current account and CPI. Polish PPI and industrial production. Czech producer prices.

Nordic Europe: Icelandic CPI, PPI and unemployment. Danish consumer sentiment.

Australia and New Zealand: Australian preliminary January manufacturing and service sector PMI results, unemployment, jobs growth, and index  of leading economic indicators. New Zealand fourth-quarter consumer prices and services PMI for December.

South Africa and Turkey: South African CPI and retail sales. Turkish consumer confidence.

Canada, Mexico and Brazil: Canadian CPI and PPI. Mexican retail sales and index of leading economic indicators. Brazil’s current account.
