Central Banks: Numerous central banks have scheduled monetary policy reviews this coming week, led by the Federal Reserve, Bank of Japan, European Central Bank, Swiss National Bank and Bank of England and also including central banks in Australia, Armenia, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Taiwan, Canada, Russia, Sweden, Ukraine, and Morocco. Fed Chairman Powell in his penultimate meeting in that capacity will hold a press conference afterward that will also discuss newly updated forecasts from the FOMC. Other central bankers speaking publicly this week include RBA Governor Bullock, BOE Governor Bailey, SNB President Schlegel, BOJ Governor Ueda, and Bank of Canada Governor Macklem.
Holiday and Events: Japan observes the Vernal Equinox holiday on Friday. Legislative elections in Vietnam and municipal elections in France are set for this Sunday, March 15.
Scheduled U.S. Data Releases: Industrial production, capacity utilization, the Philly Fed and Empire State manufacturing surveys, the National Home Builders Association housing index, producer prices, factory orders, pending home sales, new home sales, indices of leading and coincident economic indicators, and Treasury-compiled capital flows.
Japanese and Chinese Releases: Japanese machinery orders, revised industrial production, capacity utilization and trade. Chinese retail sales, industrial production, unemployment, property prices, fixed asset investment, and foreign direct investment.
Other Asia: Indian, Malaysian and Singaporean trade balances. unemployment in South Korea, Hong Kong and India. Malaysian and Hong Kong consumer prices.
Euroland Releases: Quarterly labor costs and monthly CPI, current account, trade balance, consumer confidence, construction output and ZEW expectations survey of investor sentiment.
Members of the Euro Area: Austrian and Italian consumer prices. German, Latvian, Portuguese, Slovenian and Estonian producer prices. Italian current account and German ZEW index of investor sentiment. Irish, Italian and Belgian trade balances.
U.K. and Switzerland: British retail sales, labor market data, and industrial trends survey. Swiss producer prices, import prices, trade surplus and updated government macroeconomic forecasts.
Eastern and Nordic Europe: Polish, Czech and Danish producer prices. Danish consumer confidence, Czech current account, Polish industrial production, Norwegian trade balance and Bulgarian consumer prices.
Australia and New Zealand: Australian employment, jobless rate, and index of leading economic indicators. New Zealand GDP, current account, trade balance, home prices, and service sector purchasing managers survey.
South Africa and Turkey: South African CPI and retail sales. Turkish trade balance and consumer confidence.
Canadian Releases: CPI, PPI, retail sales, housing starts, and home prices.
Brazil and Mexico: Brazilian business confidence and Mexican index of leading economic indicators.
