Central Banks: The European Central Bank heads a list that also includes Turkey, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines of monetary authorities that will be reviewing their interest rate stances. Several Fed officials have planned speaking engagements including Bostic, Waller, Kugler, and Goolsbee. ECB President Lagarde and Reserve Bank of New Zealand Governor Orr also will be speaking.
Holidays and Special Events: Three markets are closed Monday: Japan for Health-Sports Day, Canada for Thanksgiving and the United States for Columbus Day. Political leaders who make up the European Union Council will be meeting on Thursday and Friday.
Scheduled U.S. Data Releases: Import prices, retail sales, capacity usage, industrial production, housing starts, building permits, the NAHB housing market index, Treasury-compiled capital controls, and the Philly Fed and Empire State and Philly Fed manufacturing surveys. Weekly jobless insurance claims, energy inventories, chain store sales and mortgage applications.
Chinese and Japanese Statistics: Chinese quarterly GDP and monthly CPI, PPI, trade balance, retail sales, industrial production, money growth, domestic credit expansion, unemployment and fixed asset investment. Japanese trade balance, industrial production, capacity utilization, machinery orders, tertiary index and consumer prices.
Selected Other Asian Releases: Singaporean, Indian, Indonesian, and Malaysian trade balances. Indian wholesale and consumer prices. Unemployment in South Korea and Hong Kong. Singapore GDP.
Euroland Releases: Current account, trade balance, industrial production, construction output, consumer prices, ZEW economic sentiment, and index of leading economic indicators.
Members of the Euro Area: French, Italian, Spanish, Finnish, Cypriot, Austrian, and Slovakian consumer prices. German wholesale prices and ZEW Institute of economic sentiment. Irish, Belgian, Italian, and Spanish trade balances. French index of leading economic indicators, Portuguese PPI, and Ireland’s construction purchasing managers index.
U.K. and Switzerland: British CPI, PPI, RPI, labor market statistics and retail sales. Swiss PPI, import prices and trade balance.
Eastern Europe: Polish, Bulgarian, and Croatian consumer prices. Romanian and Hungarian industrial production. Poland’s current account.
Nordic Europe: Swedish consumer prices and unemployment. Danish PPI and Norwegian trade balance.
Australia, South Africa and New Zealand: Australian labor market statistics and index of leading economic indicators. New Zealand service sector PMI and quarterly consumer prices. South African CPI and retail sales.
Canada Mexico and Brazil: Canadian CPI, housing starts, and building permits. Mexican and Brazilian indices of leading economic indicators. Mexican consumer sentiment.
