Central Banks: Monetary policy stances will be reviewed in Thailand, New Zealand, Romania, Poland and the Philippines. Several Fed officials including Powell, Bostic, Bowman and Kashkari have public speaking opportunities, and minutes of the last FOMC meeting will be published. The Bank of England’s Financial Policy Committee publishes its statement on financial market stability. Bank of England MPC member Pill and Bank of Japan Governor Ueda also speak publicly.
Holiday and Special Events: The Liberal Democratic Party in Japan chooses a new leader on Saturday, who will be the next prime minister. Australians observe Labor Day on Sunday. OPEC+ ministers meet on Monday.
U.S. Scheduled Data Releases: The operative word here is “scheduled.” Until the end of the federal government shutdown, many releases are suspended. The scheduled data menu includes the trade deficit, U. Michigan consumer sentiment index, RCM/TIPP optimism index and weekly jobless insurance claims, mortgage applications, energy inventories and chain store sales.
Euroland Releases: Construction PMI and Sentix measure of investor sentiment.
Members of the Euro Area: Construction PMI indices in Germany, France and Italy. German factory orders and trade balance. German, Italian, Slovenian, Estonian, Latvian, Austrian, Irish, and Slovakian industrial production. Italian retail sales, French current account, and Austrian wholesale prices. Latvian, Estonian, Dutch, and Portuguese consumer prices. Croatian and Lithuanian producer prices. Finnish, Lithuanian, Portuguese and Cypriot trade balances.
U.K. and Switzerland: British construction PMI, Halifax house price index, and Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors’ house price balance index. Swiss unemployment.
Nordic Europe: Danish and Norwegian current accounts and industrial production. Sweden’s trade balance. Danish CPI and Norwegian PPI.
Eastern Europe: Retail sales in Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and the Czech Republic. Czech and Hungarian industrial production. Russian, Czech and Hungarian consumer prices. Romanian GDP and Czech trade balance.
Japanese Releases: Current account, international reserves, household spending, bank lending, average cash earnings, machine tool orders, index of leading economic indicators and PPI.
Selected Other Asian Releases: India’s composite and service sector PMI. Hong Kong manufacturing PMI, Indonesian consumer confidence and China’s trade balance. South Korean current account and index of leading economic indicators. Filipino consumer prices.
Australia and New Zealand: Australian business confidence, business conditions, and consumer confidence. New Zealand’s manufacturing PMI.
Turkey and South Africa: Turkish retail sales and industrial production. South African factory output.
Canada, Brazil and Mexico: Canadian labor statistics, trade balance and IVEY-PMI index. Brazilian CPI, PPI and trade balance. Mexican industrial production and consumer confidence.
