Central Banks: The Bank of Japan heads a list that also includes central banks in Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Bulgaria, Colombia, Sri Lanka and Ukraine that are scheduled to review interest rate policy. BOJ Governor Ueda holds a press conference afterward, and the quarterly Outlook for Economic Activity and Prices of the BOJ will be released.
Special Events and Holidays: British Chancellor of the Exchequer Reeves presents the Autumn Budget on Thursday. Much of Europe returns to standard time tomorrow. For one week until the United States does the same, time differentials between Europe and the U.S. will increase by an hour. Japan holds a general election tomorrow to pick members of parliament’s lower house. New Zealanders observe Labor Day on Monday, and some European institutions, particularly in Italy, are shut Friday for All Saint’s Day. Five states in Germany observe Day of the Reformation on Thursday.
Purchasing Manager Surveys: October manufacturing surveys for over 30 economies will be released, most of which arrive on Friday.
Scheduled U.S. Data Releases: Third-quarter GDP, employment cost index and PCE price deflator. Monthly unemployment rate, non-farm payroll employment, average hourly wages, ADP estimate of private jobs growth, pending home sales, Case-Shiller and FHFA house price indices, advance estimate of merchandise trade deficit, consumer confidence, JOLTS report of job openings, hires and quits, Dallas Fed manufacturing index, construction spending, and Chicago regional PMI. Weekly jobless insurance claims, energy inventories, mortgage applications and chain store sales.
Japanese Releases: Industrial production, retail sales, housing starts, construction orders, unemployment, and consumer confidence.
Other Asia: Indonesian and Singaporean consumer prices. South Korean and Hong Kong retail sales. South Korean industrial production, Malaysian PPI, Hong Kong GDP growth, Singaporean business confidence, and China’s index of leading economic indicators.
Euroland Releases: GDP, economic sentiment, consumer prices and unemployment.
Members of the Euro Area: German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Slovenian CPI. Slovakian, French, Italian, Cypriot, and Austrian producer prices. German, Belgian, French, Spanish, Italian, Latvian, Irish, Austrian, and Portuguese GDP. German, Spanish, Irish, Lithuanian, Slovenian, Spanish, Croatian retail sales. Finnish and Portuguese consumer confidence. Cypriot, Croatian, and Portuguese industrial production. Italian industrial sales and unemployment. French consumer spending and German import prices.
U.K. and Switzerland: British shop prices, mortgage approvals, money growth, and Nationwide house price index. Swiss consumer prices, retail sales, investor sentiment, and KOF leading business cycle index.
Eastern Europe: Czech and Hungarian GDP. Bulgarian and Hungarian producer prices. Russian unemployment and business confidence.
Nordic Europe: Norwegian and Swedish retail sales. Swedish PPI, consumer confidence, and GDP. Icelandic consumer prices.
Australia and New Zealand: Australian CPI, money growth, import prices and home loans. New Zealand business confidence.
South Africa and Turkey: South African and Turkish trade balances. South African PPI and growth of money and credit. Turkish consumer prices.
Canadian Releases: Monthly trade and GDP.
Brazil and Mexico: Brazilian PPI, industrial production and current account. Mexican GDP, business sentiment, and unemployment.
