Overnight Stock Market Movements: Key Developments 









The Indian stock market benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and Nifty 50, are set to open lower on Friday as investors track mixed overnight global cues despite optimism that the US–Iran war may end soon.

Asian markets traded lower, while the US stock market closed higher overnight, with the Nasdaq Composite extending its rally to 12 consecutive sessions, its longest winning streak since July 2009.

However, on Thursday, the Indian stock market erased earlier gains and ended in the red as investors booked profits in select index heavyweights.

On Thursday, Indian indices closed red:

  • Sensex slipped by 122.56 points (0.16%) to close at 77,988.68
  • Nifty 50 moved down by 34.55 points (0.14%) to settle at 24,196.75

Gift Nifty

Gift Nifty was trading near 24,140, around 56 points lower than the previous Nifty futures close, hinting at a negative start for Indian markets.

Overnight Wall Street Performance

The US stock market closed higher on Thursday, with the Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 hitting intraday record highs, as optimism grew that the US–Iran war could soon come to an end.

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped by 115.00 points (0.24%) to close at 48,578.72.
  • S&P 500 up by 18.33 points (0.26%), ending at 7,041.28.
  • The Nasdaq Composite was higher by 86.69points (0.36%), finishing at 24,102.70.

Crude Oil Prices

  • Brent crude slumped by 1.35% to $98.05/barrel
  • US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was trading 1.74% lower at $93.40/barrel

Overnight Major Global Events Driving Sentiment

  1. US–Iran War: A 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon came into effect on Thursday, marking a temporary pause in hostilities and supporting broader diplomatic efforts in the region. US President Donald Trump said the next round of talks between the United States and Iran could take place over the weekend, adding that Iran had indicated it would refrain from pursuing nuclear weapons for more than 20 years.
